My Approach

Overview

The steps below outline the process I follow to understand a problem, research a solution, and measure the results.

Understand the Problem

To understand the problem, I start by gathering all project details and requirements. Through in-person or virtual meetings, I moderate a discussion about key business challenges and objectives.

These goals help me establish a clear direction for my research.

Activities and deliverables include:

  • Brainstorming sessions with internal and external teams,

  • In-person or remote meetings using a virtual whiteboard application such as Miro, and

  • Summaries of all requirements, formatted into presentation slides.

Conduct Research

To identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, I analyze Google analytics data along with industry trends. I also conduct a peer review to highlight any gaps in content, features, and functionality.

This research is used to guide stakeholder engagement sessions where I gather input and build consensus with key decision-makers.

Activities and deliverables include:

  • Interviews with important stakeholder groups,

  • Competitive analyses of select peer companies,

  • Reviews of Google analytics data, and

  • Summaries of industry trends.

Define the Solution

To define a solution, I gather all of the requirements from the background research, stakeholder meetings, and analytics reviews.

I use this information to outline a structure that informs the prototype, design, and development phases of the project.

Activities and deliverables include:

  • Site architecture examples to show the overall layout of required pages, and

  • Blueprint documents to specify business objectives, summarize research, and highlight technical elements.

Sketch the Prototype

To test page layouts prior to the design phase, I create low fidelity wireframes. These show basic navigation elements and indicate a recommended order for content on the page.

Using an online application such as UX Pin, I can sketch page layouts and update them in real time, based on feedback. This provides an opportunity to solidify ideas and outline special features for all internal and external teams.

Activities and deliverables include:

  • Wireframes for key pages, in desktop and mobile versions, and

  • Page layouts done together with a designer, to map content to website modules.

Test and Analyze

Following the design and development stages of the project, I use direct client feedback, user testing results, and website data to analyze the final product.

The information I gather from these tests helps me refine and enhance technical elements, content selection, and usability features in line with changing business goals.

Activities and deliverables include:

  • Website analytics data, reviewed against the project objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs),

  • Surveys to solicit internal and external feedback, and

  • User testing results to observe participants interacting with product features.
